About
Vincenzo Mirone is a leading figure in urologic oncology, renowned for advancing surgical outcomes in prostate and kidney cancer. His research centers on minimally invasive techniques—particularly robotic and laparoscopic surgery—and their impact on patient recovery, oncological control, and quality of life. Mirone spearheaded the landmark RECORd 2 project, a prospective multicenter study of over 4,300 patients that established critical benchmarks for partial nephrectomy outcomes, including a widely used nomogram for predicting postoperative complications (cited over 160 times collectively). He has also driven major contributions to prostate cancer management, leading the Pros-IT CNR study on patient-reported outcomes after radical prostatectomy and demonstrating the oncological safety of nerve-sparing robot-assisted radical prostatectomy for high-risk disease. His meta-analysis of over 6,500 cases comparing robotic simple prostatectomy to other treatments for benign prostatic hyperplasia has become a key reference.
