About

Tim Edmonds is a robotics engineer whose work has focused on intelligent robotic manipulation and autonomous systems for challenging environments. His key research areas include telerobotic control, robotic manipulation, and multi-agent cooperation. Edmonds made a significant contribution to marine robotics with his work on the telerobotic shipboard handling system, which addressed the dangerous task of deploying and retrieving payloads at sea by mimicking the human arm. This work, published in 2002, remains his most cited paper with 8 citations. He also contributed to the RoboCup small-size league, designing a novel goalkeeper robot for the Cambridge University Robot Football Team that was distinctive for its shape and use of CO₂ as a power source. Additionally, Edmonds developed an innovative approach to cooperation planning using time-encoded terrain maps, which fused large, time-varying data sets for optimal path extraction. His work demonstrates a consistent focus on creating practical robotic solutions for complex, real-world applications, from maritime operations to competitive robotics.
