About

Stefano Amore Bonapasta is a pioneer in the application of robotic surgery to complex oncologic procedures, with a particular focus on hepatobiliary, pancreatic, and upper gastrointestinal malignancies. His landmark work on robot-integrated intraoperative ultrasound for hepatic malignancies (40 citations) established a novel, fully robotic technique for guiding liver resections, demonstrating both feasibility and reliability. Bonapasta has been instrumental in expanding the boundaries of minimally invasive surgery, showing through his series on robotic pancreatic surgery (19 citations) and totally robotic esophagectomy (15 citations) that these demanding operations can be performed safely with sound oncological outcomes. His research systematically addresses the functional and oncological implications of robotic approaches for rectal cancer, and he has developed innovative single-docking techniques to overcome technical limitations. With a cumulative body of work spanning liver, pancreatic, esophageal, gastric, and rectal surgery, Bonapasta has provided critical evidence that robotics can widen the application of minimally invasive techniques to procedures traditionally considered too challenging. His contributions have helped define the modern role of robotic platforms in surgical oncology, making him a key figure in the field's evolution.
