Dr. R. Rayman is a pioneering figure in robotic surgery, whose work has fundamentally advanced the feasibility of telesurgery and minimally invasive cardiac procedures. His research focuses on three key areas: long-distance telesurgery, robotic-assisted coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), and the integration of internet and satellite networks for remote surgical applications. Dr. Rayman’s most impactful contribution is his landmark 2006 study on long-distance robotic telesurgery, which demonstrated that complex surgical tasks could be performed effectively despite signal delays of up to 600 milliseconds—a critical step toward providing care in remote or underserved environments.
