About
Peng Fang’s research centers on advancing satellite-based remote sensing of atmospheric aerosols, with a particular focus on improving the accuracy and temporal resolution of aerosol optical depth (AOD) retrieval. His most impactful work, “Retrieval of High Temporal Resolution Aerosol Optical Depth Using the GOCI Remote Sensing Data” (2021, 16 citations), harnesses data from the Geostationary Ocean Color Imager (GOCI) to produce hourly AOD products, addressing a critical gap in monitoring rapid atmospheric changes for climate and environmental studies. Building on this, his recent 2024 study introduces a multi-angle AOD retrieval method that refines surface reflectance estimation, tackling the persistent challenge of land–atmosphere coupling in satellite observations. This work promises to enhance spatial coverage and retrieval accuracy beyond current major products. Fang’s contributions are vital for improving air quality monitoring and climate modeling, offering researchers and policymakers more reliable tools to track aerosol dynamics. His innovative approaches to leveraging geostationary satellite data and correcting surface reflectance mark him as a rising figure in atmospheric remote sensing.
