About
Naoki Itoh is a leading researcher in geriatric perioperative care and rehabilitation robotics, whose work directly addresses the challenges of an aging population. His primary research areas encompass postoperative complications in elderly surgical patients and the development of assistive technologies to improve quality of life. Itoh’s major contribution is his landmark multi-institutional prospective study on postoperative delirium, which identified critical risk factors in elderly patients undergoing urological surgery. This highly cited work (35 citations) provides essential evidence for preoperative risk stratification and has informed clinical protocols to prevent this serious complication. Beyond the operating room, Itoh pioneers the application of robotics in rehabilitation and caregiving.
