Leroy Hood is a visionary pioneer in systems biology and biotechnology, whose groundbreaking work has fundamentally reshaped modern genomics and medicine. His research spans the development of automated DNA sequencing, high-throughput technologies, and the integration of biology with engineering and computation. Hood’s most transformative contribution was leading the team that invented the automated DNA sequencer, a tool that made the Human Genome Project feasible and revolutionized molecular biology.
