About
K. Fujimoto is a pioneering researcher at the intersection of medical robotics and radiation oncology, with key contributions to real-time tumor-tracking radiotherapy and cardiac interventional robotics. Their most impactful work centers on developing novel dynamic robotic moving phantom systems for patient-specific quality assurance in respiratory-gated radiotherapy. In a landmark 2020 study (14 citations), Fujimoto introduced a system capable of reproducing three-dimensional tumor motion and patient anatomy, enabling precise validation of real-time tumor tracking using SyncTraX technology. Building on this, they created a six degrees-of-freedom robotic moving phantom to analyze the dosimetric impact of intrafraction translation and rotation during lung stereotactic body radiotherapy (6 citations), addressing a critical gap in treatment accuracy. Earlier, Fujimoto demonstrated versatility by applying the HeartLander crawling robot for minimally-invasive injection of thermally sensitive anti-remodeling agents into the left ventricular wall for myocardial infarction therapy (2010, 5 citations). This work showcases their ability to bridge engineering innovation with clinical needs, from cardiac repair to cancer treatment. With a growing citation footprint, Fujimoto’s research continues to shape the future of precision radiotherapy and robotic-assisted interventions.
