About

Jean-Marie Raquez is a leading figure in the design of smart, stimuli-responsive polymers for soft robotics and advanced manufacturing. His research centers on developing programmable materials—shape-memory polymers, bilayer actuators, and recyclable networks—that can change shape or function in response to heat, light, solvents, or electrical fields. A standout contribution is his work on fast IR-actuated shape-memory polymers using silver nanoparticle-grafted cellulose nanocrystals (96 citations), which opened new pathways for biomedical and aeronautic devices. He has also pioneered bilayer actuators made via Diels–Alder cross-linked polymer architectures (23 citations) and explored solvent- and vapor-triggered motion for soft robotics. More recently, Raquez has advanced sustainable 3D printing with fully recyclable pluripotent networks using dissociative dynamic bonds (15 citations, 2025), addressing the critical challenge of material circularity in additive manufacturing. His work on the Drobot microrobotic platform further demonstrates his interdisciplinary reach. With a portfolio spanning fundamental polymer chemistry to applied actuation, Raquez’s research is shaping the next generation of adaptive, eco-friendly materials.
