About
Jarmo Reponen is a leading figure in the development of health technology assessment (HTA) for digital healthcare services, pioneering frameworks that bridge the gap between rapid technological innovation and evidence-based policy. His primary research areas include the evaluation of mHealth, artificial intelligence, and robotics in healthcare, with a specific focus on creating systematic, scalable assessment methods tailored to digital health technologies (DHTs). Reponen’s most impactful contribution is the creation of the Digi-HTA framework, first detailed in his 2019 paper (86 citations), which established a structured approach to evaluating the properties, effects, and impacts of new digital health solutions. This work directly addressed a critical gap in traditional HTA methods, which were ill-suited for fast-evolving DHTs. He further demonstrated its real-world application in a 2022 study (24 citations), showing how the Digi-HTA process was implemented in Finland to inform decision-makers and support the safe introduction of novel technologies. Recognized by the Finnish Ministry of Social Affairs and Health, Reponen’s work has shaped national policy and provided a model for other countries navigating the integration of digital tools into healthcare systems.
