Ivan Tanev is a versatile robotics and artificial intelligence researcher whose work spans evolutionary computation, autonomous locomotion, multi-robot systems, and human-robot interaction. He is perhaps best known for his pioneering application of genetic programming to the automated design of snake-like robot locomotion, most notably the biomimetically inspired sidewinding gait modeled on the rattlesnake *Crotalus cerastes*.
