About

Han Hu is a leading figure in the development of advanced carbon nanomaterials, with a primary focus on graphene-based aerogels and their mechanical properties. His most celebrated contribution is the invention of a natural drying (ND) strategy for fabricating graphene aerogels, a breakthrough that replaced costly and complex supercritical drying methods with a simple, low-cost process. Hu’s naturally dried graphene aerogels (NDGAs) exhibit extraordinary performance, including ultralarge reversible compressibility of up to 99% and a tunable Poisson’s ratio that can be adjusted from negative to positive values (−0.30 < ν < 0.46). This seminal work, published in 2016, has garnered over 300 citations and opened new avenues for soft actuators and flexible electronics. By demonstrating that high-performance aerogels can be produced without specialized equipment, Hu has significantly lowered the barrier to entry for research in this field. His work not only advances fundamental materials science but also provides practical, scalable solutions for next-generation smart materials.
