Giovanni De Manzoni is a leading figure in upper gastrointestinal surgical oncology, with a career defined by advancing the standards of care for gastric and esophageal cancers. His primary research areas encompass the optimization of lymph node dissection, the evolution of minimally invasive techniques, and the refinement of complex anastomotic procedures. De Manzoni’s seminal work on gastric cancer, particularly his 2016 paper on the current status of lymph node dissection (186 citations), has been instrumental in validating the D2 procedure as the global benchmark for both early and advanced disease.
