Erik W.L. Jansen is a pioneering figure in both pancreatic biology and minimally invasive cardiac surgery. His research spans two distinct but impactful domains: single-cell genomics of human tissues and advanced surgical techniques for coronary artery disease. In 2016, Jansen co-authored "A Single-Cell Transcriptome Atlas of the Human Pancreas," a landmark study that has garnered over 1,500 citations. This work provided the first comprehensive inventory of pancreatic cell types and their marker genes, enabling deeper understanding of organ function and disease—particularly diabetes.
