About
Eleonora Balestrazzi is a pioneering urologic surgeon and researcher at the forefront of robotic surgery innovation. Her work centers on comparative robotic platforms, surgical technique refinement, and advanced 3D anatomical modeling for urologic oncology. She has been instrumental in evaluating the novel Hugo™ RAS system against the established Da Vinci® Xi, producing the first comparative evidence across radical prostatectomy, simple prostatectomy, and sacrocolpopexy—with her landmark 2023 papers accumulating over 60 citations each. Balestrazzi introduced the “Aalst technique” for nerve-sparing robot-assisted radical prostatectomy with Hugo™, a standardized approach published with an accompanying surgical video. Her research extends to renal cancer, where she developed novel volumetric and morphological parameters from 3D virtual models to improve tumor anatomy comprehension. With over 230 total citations, she has contributed to high-volume multicenter studies through the EAU Robotic Urology Section, including salvage prostatectomy outcomes. Her step-by-step technique papers for adrenalectomy and pyeloplasty serve as practical guides for adopting new robotic systems. Balestrazzi’s work is shaping the next generation of robotic urologic surgery, providing the evidence base for platform selection and surgical standardization.
