Daniel Jasper is a robotics and automation researcher whose work centers on nanomanipulation, microrobotics, and scanning electron microscope (SEM)-based control systems. His most significant contributions lie in developing automated, high-speed positioning and visual servoing techniques that push the boundaries of what is achievable at the nano- and microscale. His landmark 2010 papers on line scan-based position tracking and automated high-speed nanopositioning — accumulating 23 and 16 citations respectively — introduced innovative approaches that bypass conventional image acquisition, using dedicated line scans and custom scan generators to achieve rapid, precise detection of nanoobject movement inside SEMs. This work dramatically improved the throughput and reliability of robotic nanomanipulation systems.
