About
Cong-Huu Nguyen is a pioneering cardiac surgeon whose work centers on advancing minimally invasive techniques for congenital heart disease repair. His major contribution lies in demonstrating the feasibility and safety of totally endoscopic cardiac surgery for atrial septal defect (ASD) closure on a beating heart, without the use of costly robotic assistance. In his landmark study involving 25 patients, Nguyen showed that this approach could be performed effectively in both adults and children, reducing surgical trauma while maintaining excellent outcomes. This work, which has accumulated over 20 citations, challenges the prevailing reliance on robotics, offering a more accessible and cost-effective alternative for cardiac centers worldwide. By pushing the boundaries of endoscopic surgery, Nguyen has helped expand the reach of minimally invasive cardiac care, particularly in resource-limited settings. His research continues to influence the field of cardiothoracic surgery, inspiring further innovation in beating-heart techniques and non-robotic endoscopic procedures.
