About

Chuyu Zhong is pioneering the frontier of flexible optoelectronics and photonic sensing, with a focus on integrating high-performance microdevices onto deformable substrates. Their major contributions include the development of integrated flexible microscale mechanical sensors based on cascaded free spectral range-free cavities, which achieve exceptional sensitivity and immunity to electromagnetic interference—a significant advancement for strain-optical coupling in wearable and biomedical applications. Zhong also introduced an electrostatic force-assisted transfer method for fabricating flexible silicon photodetector focal plane arrays, overcoming longstanding challenges in heterogeneous integration to enable high-yield, high-performance image sensors. This work, published in 2024, demonstrates a scalable route toward flexible imaging systems. With their most-cited paper garnering 14 citations since 2023, Zhong’s research is gaining traction for its practical impact on next-generation flexible electronics. By merging photonic precision with mechanical flexibility, Zhong is laying the groundwork for robust, lightweight sensors and imagers that could transform fields from robotics to healthcare monitoring.
