About
Aparna Rangudu is a researcher at the intersection of environmental education, STEM pedagogy, and human-robot interaction. Her work centers on developing innovative, culturally grounded approaches to foster environmental literacy among children and youth, particularly in the Indian context. Her most notable contribution is the pioneering integration of robotics and storytelling, as demonstrated in her highly cited 2022 paper, "When elephants nodded and dolls spoke: Bringing together robotics and storytelling for environmental literacy." This work presents a novel model that uses narrative-driven, workshop-based activities to inculcate principles of environmental stewardship while simultaneously teaching computational thinking and STEM concepts. By merging the ancient tradition of storytelling with modern robotics, Rangudu creates an engaging, hands-on learning experience that makes complex environmental issues accessible and actionable for young learners. Her research directly addresses the urgent need for sustainable futures by empowering the next generation with both the knowledge and the technological skills to become environmental stewards.
