About
Andreas Meyerhans is a leading virologist and immunologist whose research is central to the global fight against HIV/AIDS. His work focuses on the critical intersection of virology and standardized immunomonitoring, developing the robust, reproducible tools necessary for effective vaccine development. A key contribution is his role in creating an automated HIV-1 Env-pseudotyped virus production system (cited 20 times), a standardized platform essential for evaluating neutralizing antibody responses in global HIV vaccine trials. This work directly addresses the need for comparable, high-quality data across international studies. Further advancing the field, Meyerhans pioneered an automated ELISpot assay (cited 7 times) for the safe, parallelized analysis of T-cell responses. By automating and standardizing this complex immunological assay, he significantly reduces inter- and intra-assay variability, enabling more reliable comparisons of immune function across different clinical trials and laboratories. Through these contributions, Meyerhans is not only advancing our fundamental understanding of HIV immunity but also providing the standardized, high-throughput tools that are indispensable for accelerating the development of an effective HIV vaccine.
