Alexander Mois Aroyo is a pioneering researcher at the intersection of human-robot interaction (HRI), trust, and social robotics, whose work has fundamentally shaped how we understand the psychological and ethical dimensions of living alongside intelligent machines. With a career defined by rigorous empirical inquiry, Aroyo has made landmark contributions to understanding how humans form trust relationships with robots — and crucially, how that trust can go dangerously wrong. His 2018 study on social engineering in HRI (82 citations) was among the first to demonstrate that robots could be leveraged to extract sensitive information or encourage risky behavior through overtrust, while his 2021 agenda-setting paper on overtrusting automation (74 citations) established a critical framework for mitigating these risks.
