About

Artificial intelligence (AI) is the field of computer science dedicated to building systems that can perform tasks typically requiring human-like reasoning, learning, perception, and decision-making. It encompasses a broad range of techniques—including machine learning, probabilistic modeling, neural networks, evolutionary computation, and swarm intelligence—that enable machines to extract patterns from data, plan actions, and adapt to new situations. In robotics, AI serves as the cognitive backbone, powering capabilities such as autonomous navigation, obstacle avoidance, object detection, manipulation control, and multi-agent coordination. Robots use AI to interpret sensor data from cameras and LiDAR, make decisions under uncertainty, and improve performance through experience rather than explicit programming. AI matters because it transforms robots from rigid, pre-programmed machines into flexible, adaptive systems capable of operating in complex, unpredictable real-world environments. From autonomous vehicles benchmarked on datasets like KITTI to surgical robots guided by deep learning, AI is the enabling technology that makes intelligent, autonomous robotics both scientifically tractable and practically deployable.
