Greggory S. LaBerge is a geneticist and forensic biologist whose research bridges the genetics of autoimmune disease and the development of novel tools for forensic DNA analysis. His most influential work centers on the genetic underpinnings of generalized vitiligo, a common autoimmune disorder. In a landmark 2003 study published in the *American Journal of Human Genetics*, LaBerge led a genomewide screen that confirmed the AIS1 susceptibility locus on chromosome 1p31 and identified additional risk regions, a foundational contribution cited over 118 times that has guided subsequent mapping of vitiligo genes.
