Abstract

It is widely recognised within Europe that there is considerable expertise in climbing and walking robots (CLAWAR) within the Mobile Robotics Group at the University of Portsmouth. This together with their extensive links with other academic research groups and industrial companies throughout the world has resulted in the funding under the EC Brite Euram Programme to set up the European CLAWAR Thematic Network. The exploratory phase of the network is currently underway with partners from Germany, Belgium and Denmark. These partners will present their intermediate results at the IEE meeting at Portsmouth but the final (single) report will be produced for submission to Brussels early in 1997. This paper will concentrate on the work carried out to date by the University of Portsmouth. (3 pages)
