Abstract
The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) has transformed sectors like digital assistants e.g., Siri and advanced tools like ChatGPT. The less digitized construction industry can gain significantly from AI adoption. AI and machine learning are reshaping construction, impacting design, planning, operations, and asset management, yielding gains in efficiency. AI enhances construction management, bolstering safety, precision, efficiency, and energy-efficient designs. Robotic process automation (RPA) speeds up construction and improves quality. European markets lead AI implementation, driving global construction growth. Early adopters leverage AI's potential for efficiency, safety, productivity, and sustainability. In engineering and construction, AI addresses cost, safety, and delays. AI plays a key role from design to asset management, with robots and human-robot partnerships expediting processes. AI-powered models reduce errors, optimize operations, and prompt investments for competitiveness. AI optimizes safety, productivity, data-driven decisions, reshaping the industry for efficiency and sustainability. AI-generated scenarios transform construction planning by providing insights, raising ethical and organizational concerns. This chapter investigates benefits like insights and challenges including ethics, biases, and organizational adjustments. Strategies include "Futures Literacy", addressing ethics, and strategic integration. A method is suggested for scenarios, considering ethics. In fabrication and construction, AI enhances processes and execution. Tools like generative design, predictive analytics, and augmented reality boost competitiveness and sustainability. AI in fabrication enhances efficiency, accuracy, and sustainability, needing ethics, privacy, and upskilling. AI reshapes practices for empowered futures.
