Abstract
Direct torque control with space vector modulation (DTC-SVM) is one of the best methods for controlling the electromagnetic torque of permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drives. This method grants excellent dynamic closed-loop torque-control performance. In this article (in Part 1) a new DTC-SVM method is presented which has excellent overload-capabilities, significantly exceeding even those of the original (classical) DTC-SVM method. The overload-capabilities of the new method are analyzed for both motor-mode and braking-mode.
