Abstract

The fourth Industrial Revolution (IR4.0) has brought about significant changes in the use of digital tools in various fields, including education, industry, and healthcare. This chapter aims to highlight the use of AR/VR-based technology and its related 3D animation tools in preventive health education. A systematic review of past records will be conducted, covering topics such as the concepts of IR4.0, technological shifts in healthcare settings, IoT sensors for smart healthcare, AR in sports science as a digital tool for health science education, and Minecraft worlds that illustrate virtual healthcare systems. Exemplary cases are presented to elaborate on current trends in the field, such as the use of 3D printing, wearable devices to promote health education, and robotics for smart healthcare implementation in the form of selected test cases. The case study is based on AR/VR activities and workshop conducted at SEMEO, RECSAM (Penang, Malaysia). Case exemplars using AR/VR-based technological tools presented are from health science education (football path), Minecraft worlds in health education settings, and healthcare analytics (illustrated in appendices). Possible issues and implications of these digital tools are also discussed, along with suggestions for the way forward.
