Abstract

Robots, once merely a product of the creative imagination, are now part of contemporary life. They can be found in the form of toys for children, in industry and the military performing repetitive and often dangerous tasks, and in pioneering procedures to diagnose and treat disease. The Nursebot Project, a unique and exciting collaboration involving the University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon University, and the University of Michigan, aims to bring robots to older adults living in the community. The major source of Nursebot funding is the National Science Foundation.
