摘要

This paper investigates the current state of research regarding technological innovation for practical music performance and education. Digital devices and informatic technologies have become increasingly prevalent in the performing arts including music. However, there has been little research on the integration of technologies with music performance. We attempted a brief scoping systematic review regarding music performance and technology in order to investigate the research situation in the musical performance field in IEEE and advocate the necessity of taking up music related studies in practical education. The result of the systematic review showed there were 42 articles regarding musical performance and activity in journals from 2010 to 2022. It is evident from the review that music study in IEEE has been largely focused on issues such as music information retrieval and automatic composition. Although there are some studies regarding musical performances, most of them are focused on signal analysis and modeling to facilitate robot performances and sophisticated interface of smart musical instruments. Our results highlight the insufficiency of academic research regarding use of technologies in actual musical performances, however, some case studies are reported regarding the topic in the field of music psychology and education. The study concludes that contributions from the IEEE’s study field may be helpful for further innovations in musical performance.
