摘要
We present a detailed overview of how autonomous robots can be integrated into an introductory computer science course. We outline the specific details of a new introductory computer science course at our institution in which students are first exposed to Java programming using the LEGO Mindstorms. This programming component consumes approximately one third of the total class time during the semester. To effectively integrate autonomous robots into a course, there are several logistical and pragmatic issues that need to be carefully resolved if the approach is to be both successful and sustainable. Furthermore, the scope and content of the robot-related course work needs to be very carefully crafted so that the students absorb valuable computer science foundational concepts and not an over abundance of robotics related material. This case study provides a detailed blue print for creating a sustainable introductory computer science with a Mindstorm programming component that is intended for first semester freshman undergraduate students with no previous programming experience.
