About
Zhengjin Liu is a pathologist whose research focuses on the characterization of rare soft tissue and genitourinary neoplasms, with a particular emphasis on perinephric myxoid pseudotumor of fat (PMPF). His major contribution lies in expanding the global understanding of this uncommon benign entity, which is characterized by a favorable prognosis. In his landmark 2025 case report, Liu documented the 22nd known case of PMPF worldwide and the first case reported in China, providing a critical updated literature review that synthesized clinical, radiological, and histopathological features of all previously documented cases. This work has been cited once and serves as a foundational reference for clinicians and pathologists encountering this diagnostically challenging tumor. By systematically cataloging the characteristics of this rare neoplasm, Liu has helped clarify its natural history and diagnostic criteria, directly aiding in the prevention of misdiagnosis and unnecessary aggressive treatment. His research underscores the importance of international case registries in advancing knowledge of ultra-rare diseases and improving patient outcomes through accurate pathological identification.
