About

You Jin Jang is a pioneering thoracic surgeon whose research focuses on advancing minimally invasive esophagectomy through single-port robotic techniques. Dr. Jang’s major contributions center on developing and refining the use of the daVinci Single-Port (SP) surgical system for complex esophageal cancer surgeries, particularly the subcostal approach for robot-assisted minimally invasive esophagectomy (RAMIE). In their groundbreaking 2025 study, Jang demonstrated that single-port RAMIE achieves reduced operative times and greater lymph node dissection compared to conventional methods, with the work already accumulating 6 citations. Earlier foundational work in 2023 established the feasibility of single-port plus one port subcostal robotic-assisted McKewon esophagectomy, marking one of the first applications of the SP system for technically demanding esophageal procedures. Jang’s research has been instrumental in expanding the boundaries of what is possible with single-port robotics, moving beyond simple procedures to tackle complex oncologic resections. With a citation impact that continues to grow, Jang’s work represents a significant step forward in making esophageal cancer surgery less invasive while maintaining oncologic rigor, positioning them as an emerging leader in the field of robotic thoracic surgery.
