About
Un Jong Choi is a pioneering surgeon whose research has fundamentally advanced the field of minimally invasive thyroid surgery, particularly through the adoption and refinement of robotic techniques. His work centers on comparing the safety, efficacy, and learning curves of robotic versus conventional endoscopic thyroidectomy for thyroid carcinoma. In a landmark 2010 multicenter study (113 citations), Choi demonstrated that robotic thyroidectomy yields perioperative outcomes comparable to traditional methods, establishing its viability. He further solidified this in a major 2012 multi-institutional analysis (79 citations), the largest of its kind at the time, which showed robotic surgery to be at least equivalent to endoscopic approaches, with some endpoints even superior.
