About
Thomas Walther is a pioneering cardiac surgeon whose research has fundamentally shaped the evolution of minimally invasive and robotic heart surgery. His key contributions span the development of Port-Access mitral valve procedures, robot-assisted video-solo surgery, and totally endoscopic coronary artery bypass grafting (TECAB). Walther’s landmark 1999 paper on minimally invasive mitral valve surgery (156 citations) established the feasibility and safety of transitioning from traditional open-heart approaches to computer-enhanced, telemanipulator-assisted techniques.
