About
Shinichi Furuya is a leading researcher at the intersection of motor control, neuroscience, and human augmentation, with a focus on understanding and enhancing expert performance—particularly in pianists. His work investigates how the brain and body achieve extraordinary dexterity, and how that expertise can be pushed beyond natural limits. Furuya’s major contributions include identifying the neuromuscular and biomechanical constraints on finger independence in skilled individuals, and revealing the aberrant sensorimotor adaptation underlying focal task-specific dystonia in musicians.
