Rajarsi Mandal is a leading head and neck surgeon whose research has fundamentally advanced the safety and precision of transoral robotic surgery (TORS) for oropharyngeal cancer. His work centers on two critical challenges: minimizing life-threatening postoperative hemorrhage and optimizing patient quality of life. Mandal’s landmark 2015 study analyzing post-TORS hemorrhage, cited over 100 times, established evidence-based protocols to prevent this rare but serious complication. He further demonstrated that prophylactic transcervical arterial ligation can significantly reduce bleeding severity, a finding with 63 citations that has shaped operative practice.
