About
Pan Jiang is a materials scientist and engineer whose research sits at the dynamic intersection of advanced hydrogel design, 3D/4D printing, and soft robotics. His work has fundamentally advanced the mechanical performance of hydrogels—materials historically limited by poor strength and toughness—by engineering sophisticated cross-linking architectures. His landmark 2020 paper on dual-physical cross-linking hydrogels (183 citations) demonstrated that ultrahigh-strength, tough hydrogels could be successfully 3D printed, a breakthrough with broad implications for biomedical devices and flexible electronics. Building on this, his 2022 study on strain-induced microphase separation (131 citations) unlocked supramolecular hydrogels of unprecedented toughness, inspiring new biomimetic design strategies. Jiang has also translated these material innovations into functional systems, developing octopus-inspired underwater adhesion grippers, extreme-environment flexible sensors tolerant to acid, alkali, and freezing conditions, and grayscale stereolithography techniques enabling site-selective shape morphing for soft robotics. With over 470 citations and a growing portfolio spanning smart actuators, wearable electronics, and bioinspired manipulation, Pan Jiang's contributions are shaping the future of intelligent, high-performance soft material systems.
