About
Man-Hae Kim is an atmospheric scientist whose research centers on the optical and chemical properties of carbonaceous aerosols, particularly brown carbon, and their role in climate forcing. In a landmark 2021 study on the 2020 California wildfires, Kim demonstrated that brown carbon—a light-absorbing organic aerosol—contributed substantially to solar radiation absorption during extreme fire events, challenging prior assumptions that black carbon dominated wildfire radiative effects.
