About
Dr. Kei Fujio is a pioneering urologic surgeon and roboticist whose work sits at the intersection of advanced minimally invasive surgery and next-generation surgical robotics. His primary research focuses on robotic renal autotransplantation and the clinical validation of novel surgical robot systems. Dr. Fujio made headlines with the first robotic renal autotransplantation performed outside of North America, a landmark case (2017, 16 citations) that demonstrated the feasibility of this complex procedure for managing ureteral strictures and ureteropelvic junction obstruction. More recently, he has been instrumental in evaluating the Saroa Surgical Robot System, a novel platform featuring tactile feedback and a roll-clutch system. His initial experience comparing Saroa to the da Vinci Xi in robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (2024, 14 citations) provides critical early evidence on the safety and efficacy of emerging robotic competitors. By bridging the gap between established robotic platforms and innovative new technologies, Dr. Fujio is shaping the future of urologic surgery—offering patients less invasive options while pushing the boundaries of what surgical robots can achieve.
