About
Dr. Johanne G. Bloemen is a leading colorectal surgeon whose research is revolutionizing the safety and quality of life in minimally invasive rectal cancer surgery. Her most impactful work centers on preventing anastomotic leakage, a devastating complication, through her landmark AVOID trial (84 citations). This multicentre, randomized, phase 3 study demonstrated that indocyanine green near-infrared fluorescence bowel perfusion assessment can significantly reduce leakage rates, establishing a new standard of intraoperative care.
