About

J. L. Marshall is a leading observational astronomer whose work spans the discovery of exoplanets, the electromagnetic follow-up of gravitational-wave sources, and the development of next-generation spectroscopic instruments. As a key figure in the Kilodegree Extremely Little Telescope (KELT) project, Marshall helped design and operate a small robotic telescope that surveys bright stars for planetary transits—a foundational contribution that has garnered nearly 200 citations. He is also a driving force in the TOROS Collaboration, which achieved the first optical detection of an electromagnetic counterpart to a gravitational-wave event (GW170817), a landmark result with over 130 citations.
