About

Jon Lawrence is a distinguished Australian astronomer whose research spans astronomical instrumentation, Galactic archaeology, and Antarctic astronomy. Perhaps his most celebrated contribution is his central role in developing HERMES, the High Efficiency and Resolution Multi-Element Spectrograph for the Anglo-Australian Telescope (AAT), which garnered 93 citations following its 2015 first-light publication. HERMES was purpose-built for the GALAH survey — an ambitious effort to reconstruct the formation and evolutionary history of the Milky Way by chemically fingerprinting hundreds of thousands of stars.
