About
Dr. Ginil Kumar Pooleri is a pioneering urologic surgeon and researcher whose work centers on advancing minimally invasive surgical techniques for urologic cancers, particularly renal cell carcinoma, prostate cancer, and germ cell tumors. His most significant contribution is the development of the RPN (Radius, Position, iNvasion of renal sinus) Classification and Nephrometry Scoring System, an internationally developed clinical tool specifically designed to assess surgical difficulty for robotic partial nephrectomy—a first-of-its-kind classification that has already garnered 11 citations since its 2023 publication. Dr. Pooleri has also pioneered novel surgical approaches, including robot-assisted supine extraperitoneal retroperitoneal lymph node dissection for post-chemotherapy residual masses in non-seminomatous germ cell tumors, and has extensively compared outcomes across open, laparoscopic, and robotic partial nephrectomy modalities. His work on pathological outcomes and biochemical recurrence-free survival after radical prostatectomy in high-risk Indian populations (9 citations) has provided crucial region-specific data. Demonstrating a holistic approach to patient care, he has even integrated yoga into the perioperative management of prostate cancer patients. With over 50 citations across his most-cited works, Dr. Pooleri continues to shape the future of robotic urologic oncology.
