Gianni Pavan is a leading figure in bioacoustics and environmental monitoring, whose work has fundamentally advanced our understanding of animal communication and ecosystem health. His research spans the development of innovative acoustic technologies for wildlife conservation, with a particular focus on marine mammals, birds, and terrestrial species. Pavan’s major contributions include pioneering the use of passive acoustic monitoring (PAM) to track cetacean populations, detect anthropogenic noise impacts, and assess biodiversity in remote habitats. His studies on sperm whale and fin whale vocalizations have provided critical insights into their social structures and migration patterns.
