D. Barnaby is a pioneering figure in the development of remote and robotic astronomical observatories, with a career dedicated to advancing automated telescope technologies and the study of active galactic nuclei (AGN). Their most influential work, "RTML – a standard for use of remote telescopes" (2002, 22 citations), established a foundational protocol for homogeneous remote telescope image request systems, addressing the critical need for interoperability as robotic telescopes proliferated.
