About

Dr. Chuanyong Mu is a leading interventional pulmonologist whose work is transforming the diagnosis of lung cancer through advanced robotic bronchoscopy. His primary research focuses on shape-sensing robotic-assisted bronchoscopy (SS-RAB), a cutting-edge technology that uses fiber-optic sensors and robotic control to precisely navigate to peripheral pulmonary nodules (PPNs). Dr. Mu’s major contribution is pioneering the clinical adoption of the ION™ SS-RAB platform in the Chinese population. His landmark 2024 study (16 citations) was the first to prospectively assess the feasibility and safety of this system in China, demonstrating its effectiveness in sampling hard-to-reach nodules. He further solidified this emerging field by co-authoring the 2025 Chinese expert consensus on SS-RAB (3 citations), providing the first national guidelines for its use. With a growing citation impact, Dr. Mu is not only validating a transformative diagnostic tool but also establishing the clinical framework for its widespread implementation, directly improving early detection and minimally invasive management of peripheral lung lesions.
