About

Chang Meng is a pioneering urologic surgeon and researcher at the forefront of robotic-assisted reconstructive surgery. His work centers on two key areas: developing novel techniques for complex ureteral strictures and evaluating emerging robotic surgical platforms. Meng’s most impactful contribution is his leadership in clinical trials comparing the Chinese-developed KangDuo surgical robot to the da Vinci Si system, demonstrating noninferiority for partial nephrectomy and pyeloplasty—work that has garnered over 120 citations collectively. He has also advanced ureteral reconstruction through innovative approaches, including robotic-assisted lingual mucosal graft ureteroplasty (73 citations) and ileal ureter replacement for avulsion injuries. His research consistently combines technical description with rigorous outcome analysis, as seen in his prospective studies on patient-reported outcomes for minimally invasive ureteroplasty. Notably, Meng has pioneered complex procedures like robotic appendiceal onlay flap ureteroplasty and modified V-shaped flap pyeloplasty for horseshoe kidney, pushing the boundaries of what is possible with robotic systems. With over 280 total citations across his top papers, Chang Meng is establishing himself as a leading voice in the next generation of robotic urologic surgery, particularly in the development and validation of homegrown surgical robots.
