C. Cornwall is a leading figure in atmospheric science, specializing in aerosol remote sensing and the characterization of Earth’s radiation budget. Their work has been instrumental in developing and refining techniques to measure aerosol optical depth (AOD)—a critical metric for understanding climate forcing and air quality. Cornwall’s most influential contribution is the creation of a decadal AOD climatology for NOAA’s SURFRAD network, detailed in a 2008 paper with 79 citations.
