A Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a specialized medical environment designed to provide critical care for premature, low-birth-weight, or medically fragile newborns whose organ systems are not yet fully developed. AI-based tools support early diagnosis and clinical decision-making for conditions common in premature neonates. This domain matters because preterm infants are extraordinarily sensitive to environmental stressors, and even small improvements in care precision, pain reduction, or specialist access can have lasting neurological and developmental consequences.
