About

Grailing Jones is a leading figure in autonomous space systems and spacecraft software verification, whose work has directly shaped the reliability and capability of modern orbital missions. His research centers on two critical challenges: intelligent mission planning for on-orbit servicing and rigorous model-based verification of embedded flight software. Jones’s most impactful contribution is his seminal 2008 paper on the DARPA Orbital Express mission, which detailed the automated and adaptive planning algorithms that enabled the first-ever autonomous rendezvous, fluid transfer of hydrazine propellant, and robotic arm transfer of Orbital Replacement Units.
